Indian students in Bangladesh return home amid violence over quota system. A large number of Indian students studying in Bangladesh returned home on Friday by the land route through Agartala city in Tripura. They came back to escape the deteriorating law and order situation in the neighbouring country following a wave of student protests against a quota system. Speaking to the news agency PTI, a student said, "Basically the situation there is not good at this time, quota issue is going on like quota is reserved for freedom fighters and common people are feeling that it is not good for them in future. That's why some agitations have started 4 days ago. Slowly everything is shutting down there, first internet was shut down then local calls and now wi-fi has also been shut down." The protests over the quota system, which allegedly grants preferential treatment in government jobs to allies of the ruling Awami League, has turned increasingly violent in the past few days.
