On this Special Report, India Todayâs Himanshu Mishra provides an on-ground update on the massive demolition drive conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) near Turkaman Gate and Ramlila Maidan. Following a Delhi High Court order, authorities deployed over 30 bulldozers and 50 dumpers to clear illegal encroachments in the congested area. Himanshu Mishra noted, 'The way the police department has demolished this area at night, the police must have thought that it is possible that they will have to face a lot of opposition during the day.' The operation, which lasted approximately four hours, targeted commercial structures and a wedding house while ensuring the nearby mosque remained untouched. The late-night timing was chosen to minimise traffic disruption near New Delhi Railway Station and essential hospitals like GB Pant and LNJP. The police maintained that minimalistic force was used to execute the court-mandated clearance of the encroached land to ensure law and order was maintained throughout the process.
