Flash floods in Telangana's Warangal city have led to the inundation of residential areas. This has raised questions on rapid urbanization that is achieved at the cost of norms. Warangal's Kakatiya area received heavy to extremely heavy rainfall this past week. Local observatories predict Kakatiya will be on the receiving end of more rain in the days to come. Not just Warangal, neighbouring Mulugu district in Telangana is also reeling under downpour accompanied by floods.
The state's urban development minister, KTR conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas along with ground assessment meetings. Officials pointed out that residents of flood-affected areas are still living in floodwater mixed with sewage. Areas such as Maissaya Nagar in Warangal East constituency, Sammyaa Nagar in Warangal West and Hunter Road continue to receive relentless rainfall. While residents blame the flood drainage system for their troubles, they are also complaining of political leaders who visit flood-affected areas and make commitments that are fulfilled only on paper.
