Government rolls back mandatory Sanchar Saathi app order after backlash

Amid massive uproar,  the government has rolled back the mandatory pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi app order. The Centre has withdrawn the order which required manufacturers to install the app within 90 days. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia clarified that the app is 'not mandatory' and is meant for 'people's betterment' to curb digital fraud. The move follows strong opposition and concerns over potential snooping and data theft. The programme highlights the government's stance that the app is a tool for cyber safety, not surveillance.
