Good news: At 2018 World Environment Day event, India to lead the way in global fight on plastic

India will be the global host for World Environment Day 2018, which is celebrated on June 5 annually, and 'plastic pollution' is the central theme this time.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) chief Erik Solheim, who is visiting India currently, signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to this effect with the Ministry of Environment and Forest's (MoEF) Union secretary, CK Mishra, on Monday.

Terming plastic a serious menace, Union minister for environment, Dr Harsh Vardhan said that his ministry is taking the lead in discouraging the use of plastic.
