Farmers across several states protest against 3 farm sector bills

Lok Sabha on Thursday passed by voice vote the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020. The introduction of bills by the Narendra Modi government has also triggered protests by thousands of farmers in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

The Congress said the farm sector legislations brought in by the government will be "a death knell for the future of farming". Opposing the bills, Congress MPs staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Parliament Complex and raised slogans against the government. Some MPs from Punjab also burnt copies of the farm bills brought in by the government inside the Parliament Complex.
