Exclusive report on massive fencing drive along India-Myanmar border

India Today brings an exclusive report from Moreh on the India-Myanmar border, where a massive fencing project is underway. The initiative aims to fortify 1,643 kilometers of the border stretching from Arunachal Pradesh to Mizoram. So far, 401 kilometers have been completed, including a 9.2-kilometer stretch at Moreh in Manipur. The high-tech fencing is designed to curb Rohingya infiltration, prevent insurgent intrusions, and check cross-border smuggling. Assam Rifles personnel are working in challenging terrains to secure the frontier, having neutralized over 11 militants and seized significant quantities of narcotics in the past six months. Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the project's necessity for security, citing cross-border insurgency as a factor in Manipur violence. The report highlights the impact on local communities and the government's reconsideration of the free movement agreement with Myanmar.
