This special report covers the major legal victory for Indian agencies as a Belgian court orders the extradition of fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi in the â¹13,000 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. The court has noted 'swindle, loot and fraud charges against Mehul Choksi'. The ruling dismissed Choksi's defence that the case was political in nature and also rejected claims of potentially inhumane jail conditions in India. Indian authorities had provided assurances that Choksi would be lodged in Mumbai's Arthur Road jail, which meets international standards. The order upholds the validity of the charges, including fraud and forgery, under Belgian law, clearing a significant hurdle for the CBI and Enforcement Directorate. Choksi, who was arrested in Belgium in April 2025, still has the option to appeal the decision in a higher court.
