Dharavi project given to Gautam Adani to benefit him: Congress MP

Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad accused the Maharashtra government of giving the Dharavi redevelopment project to Industrialist Gautam Adani for benefitting him while speaking at the India Today Conclave on Wednesday. 

The redevelopment of Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum, has faced numerous setbacks since the state government first proposed an action plan in 2004. Despite multiple failed attempts to attract bidders over the years, the Adani Group won the bid in November 2023 to redevelop 645 acres of prime land in central Mumbai. 

However, nearly a year later, concerns persist over how the Adani Group secured the contract, its financial ability to complete the project, and whether it views the initiative as a resettlement effort or a real estate venture. Tune in to the video to find out why Dharavi is contentious.
