Delhi HC bats for Uniform Civil Code, asks Centre to take steps for its implementation

The Delhi High Court has backed the need for a Uniform Civil Code in the country and asked the Centre to take the necessary steps in this regard.

The court stressed on the need for uniform principles in respect to marriage, divorce, succession etc and also noted that modern Indian society is gradually becoming homogeneous, and traditional barriers' of religion, community, and caste are fading thus the need for a uniform civil code.

The court made the reamrks while hearing a case involving divorce plea by a women belonging to a Scheduled Tribe community.
