Addressing the 'Mehangai Hatao' rally in Jaipur on Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi drew a distinction between the words 'Hindu' and 'Hindutva'.
He went on to say that Mahatma Gandhi was a Hindu, whereas Nathuram Godse was a "Hindutvavadi".
"There is a fight between two words : Hindu and Hindutvavadi. These are not one word. These are different words. I am a Hindu but I am not a Hindutvavadi. I want to tell you the difference. Mahatma Gandhi was a Hindu. Godse was Hinditvavadi. I will tell you the difference. A Hindu is ready to die for the truth. Truth is his path," Rahul Gandhi said.
Taking a dig at the ruling BJP-led government at the Centre, Rahul Gandhi said, "Since 2014, Hindutvavadis have been in power while Hindus have been out of power. These [Hindutvavadis] are false Hindus."
