The ruling Mahayuti alliance has finalised its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled for January 15. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest 137 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena will field candidates in 90 seats. In a significant political development, the Thackeray brothers, Uddhav and Raj, have announced an alliance to counter the ruling coalition. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has decided to contest the Mumbai civic polls separately, announcing 64 candidates so far. However, the Ajit and Sharad Pawar factions have joined hands for the Pimpri-Chinchwad civic elections. The deadline for filing nominations is 5 pm today, with vote counting set for the day after the polls.
