Bird flu scare: India on high alert as over 1,200 birds found dead across country

India is on high alert after over 1,200 birds were found dead across the country.

On Saturday, 900 birds were found at a poultry farm in Maharashtra. The Centre said the confirmation of bird flu in Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra is awaited as the samples have been sent for testing.

In view of the bird flu scare, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a ban on the import of live birds in the national capital and closure of Ghazipur poultry market, the biggest in the city, for the next 10 days.

Besides Uttar Pradesh, the Centre has confirmed bid flu in Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat.
