In an exclusive interview with India Today's Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, senior advocate Kapil Sibal talked about the electoral bonds case and the Supreme Court's order to SBI to disclose all details related to the electoral bonds by March 21.
Talking about the electoral bonds scheme, Kapil Sibal said, "This is, unfortunately, perhaps the biggest scam that's happened in the history of this country."
He further said, "The fact is that the scheme was not transparent. So if a businessman or an industrialist or anybody else wanted to give money to a political party, he should have done it through cheque. That was also allowed. Why did he not do it through cheque? Why did he have to go and buy this bond? Naturally, because the intent of the scheme itself was to ensure that the political party in power gets enriched, which is why the BJP has got over Rs 6000 crore through these bonds, through this scheme."
