Atal Setu, India's longest sea bridge, is now operational after it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. This engineering marvel, notable for its earthquake resistant technology, connects South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, reducing the travel time from two hours to just 15 to 20 minutes.Â
Built with 1.77 lakh metric tons of steel and over 5 lakh metric tons of cement, this is also the world's 12th longest sea bridge. A total of Rs 18,000 crore has been invested into the six-lane 21.8 kilometre Atal Setu. Over 70,000 vehicles are expected to use this route daily. The sea bridge will also bolster the connectivity between South Mumbai and the newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport and Jawaharlal Nehru port.
