India Today obtained exclusive access to the findings of a probe conducted by the Special Enquiry Team (SET) of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) against IRS officer Sameer Wankhede. The report resulted in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registering a case against Wankhede and others for attempting to extort Rs 25 crores from Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan to secure the release of his son, Aryan Khan, who was arrested in the Cordelia cruise ship drug case. The NCB SET, led by Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh, uncovered evidence of corruption, misconduct, and violations of civil service rules by Sameer Wankhede during their investigation. The information note was altered at the last moment, with the names of Aryan Khan and Arbaaz included and other suspects' names dropped.
