Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday, launched the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Shah accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, led by Mamata Banerjee, of fostering corruption, a 'syndicate raj', and causing industrial ruin in the state. He alleged that unchecked infiltration is dangerously altering West Bengal's demography and criticized the state for non-cooperation on land acquisition for BSF fencing. Vowing to stop illegal entry, Shah promised the establishment of a 'strong national grid'. The event also commemorated Netaji Subhash Chandra Boseâs 1943 flag hoisting. Amid concerns over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, Shah assured the Matua community of their citizenship status. Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, was also in attendance at the political event.
