In February 2018, the Indian government's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched an investigation into Nirav Modi. The CBI acted on a complaint from Punjab National Bank that alleged that Modi and his partners defrauded the bank by obtaining fake Letters of Undertaking (LoU) for making payments to overseas suppliers.
