Tamil Nadu: Villagers of Madurai district stage protest against tungsten mining project

Thousands of farmers in Madurai district protested against a tungsten mining project, demanding the Central Government revoke mining rights given to the Vedanta Group. The project threatens Arittapatti, Tamil Nadu's first biodiversity site, and nearby historical sites. The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a resolution in December requesting the project be scrapped. A delegation met Union Minister Kishan Reddy in Delhi.
