In Karnataka's Mandya, the officials of the Mysuru Wildlife Division rescued an elephant after it fell into the canal in a tense rescue operation. As part of the operation, the veterinarians first fed the elephant and then administered tranquilliser shots using a dart gun. As the sedatives took effect, the elephant gradually slipped into a semi-conscious state and eventually collapsed safely.
To prevent the elephantâs trunk from dipping into the water, officials closely monitored its condition. A container was lowered into the canal with the help of a crane, and staff fastened heavy belts and ropes around the elephant.
After hours of effort, the elephant was carefully lifted onto the container, marking a successful rescue operation by the Forest Department.
