Justice Surya Kant assumes office as 53rd Chief Justice of India

Justice Surya Kant assumed office as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Monday, succeeding Justice BR Gavai. Appointed on October 30, he is set to serve for nearly 15 months until his retirement on February 9, 2027, upon reaching the age of 65. The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
