Union Minister Suresh Gopi has sparked a controversy with remarks made at a public interaction in Idukki, alleging manipulation of Kerala's voter list. He claimed, "those elected by corpses are swindling to people," referencing a controversy where the Congress and Left have also alleged voter list irregularities. Gopi stated there were incidents of deceased teachers remaining active on the state's voter roll. The minister, who won from Thrissur, a constituency where his party was not seen as a strong contender, said his victory was by "God's grace." He mentioned he did not win from Tiruvanthapuram or Appalakkad where the BJP is considered influential. Gopi also said he is being subjected to a "political wish-hunt" following various allegations.
