DGP-rank Karnataka cop Ramachandra Rao suspended over viral sleaze video
The Karnataka government suspended senior cop Ramachandra Rao after a video surfaced on social media showing his alleged intimate moments in his official chamber.

The Karnataka government on Tuesday suspended a DGP-rank police officer, Ramachandra Rao, after a video surfaced on social media that purportedly showed him in a compromising position with a woman inside his office.
The decision came amid rising controversy and public outrage over the officer's alleged behaviour in public office. The controversy reached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who took a brief from the concerned department on Monday. A day later, the state administration decided to suspend the senior police officer.
Rao, who is the father of Kanada actor and gold smuggling accused Ranya Rao, was posted as the Director General of Police of Civil Rights Enforcement in Karnataka. Rao has claimed that the video being circulated is morphed and has demanded that an investigation be carried out.
Sources told India Today TV Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was furious after watching the footage and sought details on how such an incident could have taken place within the police establishment.
The footage, which went viral, appears to show Rao hugging and kissing different women while in uniform during office hours. Sources say the visuals appear to have been secretly recorded inside the DGP’s office and feature women visiting on different occasions in varied outfits, with Rao interacting closely with them while official work was underway.
Rao, however, has denied the allegations, calling the video “fabricated and false” and saying, “This is a morphed video. People are targeting me.”
“I was there in Belagavi eight years ago, that’s a long time back. We have spoken to our advocate about this, and we are taking action. This is shocking for us. It is fabricated and false. That video is completely false. I don’t know if something has happened; it wouldn’t come to light without an investigation. An enquiry must be conducted into this. Such false information is being spread,” Rao told India Today TV further.
Rao also met the Home Minister amid the controversy to discuss the matter.
