The Janata Dal (Secular) will "definitely" support Rahul Gandhi as "a tall leader" but whether or not he can be the prime ministerial candidate of a united Opposition is a "matter of serious discussions", party spokesperson Tanveer Ahmed said.
Nasir Hussain, a Congress MP from Karnataka, who was part of a panel discussion with Ahmed chose not to get into the debate whether Rahul Gandhi will be projected as a prime ministerial candidate.
Nasir Hussain and Tanveer Ahmed were speaking at the India Today Conclave South 2018. The BJP's Malavika Avinash was also part of the discussion, which focussed on who would in Karnataka's 28 Lok Sabha seats.
Avinash was confident that the BJP would get around 24 MPs from Karnataka during next year's polls. The JD(S)'s Tanveer Ahmed, however, felt that the BJP would be reduced to single digits in the southern state (the party currently has 15 MPs from Karnataka).
