Image of the day: Tonga eruption shot ash as high as 39 kms into air

An undersea volcano eruption in Tonga sent tsunami waves crashing onto the South Pacific island and triggering warnings as far as the US West Coast. Dramatic images from space showed the moment the eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai which sent a mushroom of smoke and ash into the air.
