'There is no end to Covid-19, it is here to stay': Ramanan Laxminarayan told Sneha Mordani

Ramanan Laxminarayan, Economist, Epidemiologist, Founder & Director, One Health Trust, said that while antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is the third leading cause of death in the world, India has the highest number of drug-resistant pathogens. Amid AMR, he said that Disease X is lurking and could become the next pandemic after Covid-19. "Viruses are always experiencing antigenic drift and so will always new vaccines for a disease like Covid-19.  New subtypes could be an issue, but likely for elderly people rather than the general population.  There is no end to Covid - it is here to stay, but it is unlikely to cause the kind of damage we saw in 2021," Laxminarayan said at India Today Conclave 2024.
