Meet 58-year-old cancer survivor and snake saviour

This report from Akola features Bal Kalne, a man who has rescued over 20,000 snakes over the last 30 years. A survivor of throat cancer for seven years, the 58-year-old continues his work, rescuing reptiles like cobras, vipers, and pythons and releasing them into forests. Kalne says, "Cancer ke baad mein mujhe log bol rahe ki aap ye seva nahin kar sakenge. Lekin main waisa hi maine ye challenge chuka raha hun." (After cancer, people told me I would not be able to do this service. But I took it up as a challenge). On the day he was diagnosed with cancer, he had gone to rescue a snake. Kalne, who has also saved hundreds of other wild animals, considers his work a way to spread awareness about the disease. His family, initially hesitant, now supports his mission.
