Pankaj Tripathi returns to theatre after 12 years, shares stage with daughter Aashi
Pankaj Tripathi is set to make his stage comeback after a 12-year hiatus with the musical comedy play Lailaaj. The production will feature Tripathi in a cameo alongside his daughter Aashi.

Actor Pankaj Tripathi is set to return to the theatre after a gap of 12 years with the musical comedy stage play Lailaaj, marking a deeply personal milestone in his artistic journey. The play will also see him sharing the stage with his daughter Aashi Tripathi for the first time.
Produced under Tripathi’s home banner Roopkatha Rangmanch, Lailaaj is produced by Mridula Tripathi and co-produced by Pankaj Tripathi. The play is written and directed by noted theatre practitioner Faiz Mohammed Khan and is scheduled to open on February 8 at Rangsharda, Mumbai.
While Pankaj Tripathi appears in a cameo, the production holds special significance for him as it brings together his love for theatre and family. Aashi, who made her stage debut last year, will perform alongside her father in what marks their first professional collaboration.
Speaking about his return to the stage in a statement, Tripathi said that theatre is where his journey as an actor truly began. He described the experience as nostalgic and grounding, adding that while cinema has given him recognition, theatre offers an intimacy that constantly challenges and humbles a performer. He also shared that producing Lailaaj with his wife has been a labour of love and a reminder of why they began their creative journey.
Reflecting on sharing the stage with his daughter, Tripathi said watching Aashi perform has been one of the most emotional experiences of his life. He added that theatre teaches discipline, patience and respect for the craft, and he considers it the ideal space for her to begin her journey as an actor.
After its Mumbai opening, Lailaaj will also be staged in Delhi on February 14, giving theatre audiences in the capital an opportunity to witness the actor’s return to live performance and a rare father-daughter collaboration.
