BMC Elections: Narrowest win at 7 votes, landslide victory in Malad

In one of the closest contests of the election, Congress candidate Tulip Miranda edged out a victory in ward number 90 in Santacruz by just seven votes, polling 5,197 votes against BJP’s Jyoti Upadhyay, who secured 5,190.

In contrast, the BJP recorded a landslide in ward number 46 in Malad West, where Yogita Sunil Koli won with 37,831 votes, defeating MNS candidate Snehita Sandesh Dehalikar by a massive margin of 21,717 votes.

Former mayors and Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates Kishori Pednekar, Vishakha Raut, Shraddha Jadhav and Milind Vaidya won from their respective wards, along with former deputy mayor Hemangi Worlikar and Suhas Wadkar.

BJP's Makarand Narwekar, one of Mumbai's richest candidates with assets of Rs 124 crore, won from a ward in Colaba in south Mumbai. He is the brother of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar. Rahul Narwekar's sister-in-law Harshita and cousin Gauravi Shivalkar-Narwekar also won from wards 225 and 227, respectively.

Among those who tasted defeat were former Shiv Sena MLA Sada Sarvankar's son Samadhan and daughter Priya, and former BEST committee chairman Anil Kokil who had defected to the Shiv Sena from Shiv Sena (UBT) after being denied a ticket from Lalbaug.

BJP emerges top party in BMC results

The final results of the 2026 BMC elections show the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed by the Shinde-led Shiv Sena with 29. Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) secured 65 seats, while the Congress won 24.

Smaller parties also made gains, with the AIMIM winning eight seats, the MNS six, the NCP three, the Samajwadi Party three, and the NCP–SP one.

Together, the Mahayuti alliance won 118 seats, four more than the majority mark in the 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, clearing the way for it to form the civic body’s leadership.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday said that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election results reflected a clear mandate for development, expressing confidence that the Mahayuti alliance would form the next Mayor in Mumbai.

Addressing a press conference as counting continued, Shinde said Mumbai, as the country’s economic capital, must be developed into a city of global standards. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, he said Mumbai should emerge as a global fintech capital and play a key role in achieving India’s USD 5 trillion economy target.

Shinde said the Mahayuti government was committed to making Mumbai corruption-free and had already initiated steps in that direction. Highlighting infrastructure initiatives, he said the process of concretising all roads in Mumbai was started in two phases during his tenure as Chief Minister to make the city pothole-free.

BMC Poll Results Live: BJP leads BMC trends as counting continues till 8 pm

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) maintained its lead in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections as per official trends released at 8 pm on Friday. The party was leading in 84 wards, emerging as the single largest contender in the civic body.

The Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction followed closely, leading in 63 wards, indicating a strong performance in several key pockets of Mumbai. The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena was ahead in 26 wards, while the Congress was leading in 23 wards.

Among other parties, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was leading in 8 wards, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) showed a modest performance with leads in 6 wards. The Samajwadi Party (SP) was ahead in 2 wards.

Within the Nationalist Congress Party factions, the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) was leading in 1 ward, while the Ajit Pawar-led NCP (AP) was ahead in 2 wards.

Counting is ongoing and the final outcome is expected later in the night.

BMC Poll Results Live: BJP ahead in BMC election trends till 6:30 pm

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was leading the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) civic election trends as of 6.30 pm, emerging as the single largest party in early counts. According to official trends, the BJP was ahead in 79 wards.

The Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) was in second position, leading in 60 wards, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena was ahead in 25 wards. The Congress was leading in 19 wards.

Among other parties, AIMIM was leading in seven wards, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) was ahead in five wards. The Samajwadi Party (SP) and both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party, NCP (Sharad Pawar) and NCP (Ajit Pawar), were leading in two wards each.
