Jaipur shuts primary schools till January 10 as cold wave intensifies
The Jaipur district administration has said the situation will be reviewed again if temperatures continue to fall, and further changes may be announced depending on the weather.

With temperatures dipping steadily and the Meteorological Department warning of a severe cold wave, the Jaipur district administration has announced temporary holidays for students in lower classes across all government and private schools.
According to the order issued on Monday, schools will remain closed for Pre-Primary to Class 5 students from January 6 to January 10, 2026.
For students of Classes 6 to 8, the holiday period will be shorter, January 6 to January 8, 2026.
The decision comes after weather officials reported a continued fall in minimum temperatures and harsh morning conditions in Jaipur and neighbouring areas. Schools in the region had already been operating with reduced morning hours over the past week, but the latest forecast prompted authorities to extend relief to younger children.
TEACHERS TO REPORT AS USUAL; EXAMS UNCHANGED
While students will get temporary relief from the cold, the administration has clarified that teachers are required to report to school as usual.
School campuses will remain functional, and internal work, academic planning and administrative activities will continue.
The order also specifies that all examinations will be conducted as per schedule, and students appearing for assessments must follow instructions issued by their respective schools.
Officials said exam timings will not be changed unless individual schools decide otherwise.
COLD WAVE GRIPS JAIPUR
The cold wave has tightened its grip over Jaipur district in the past few days, with minimum temperatures dipping several degrees below normal.
Dense fog in the early hours has also reduced visibility on major routes and affected daily routines for many families.
Officials said the order aims to protect younger children, who are more vulnerable to health risks during extreme cold conditions.
“This is a precautionary measure to ensure student safety,” a senior district education officer said. “The situation will be reviewed again based on the next weather update.”
The district administration will monitor weather developments in coordination with the Meteorological Department.
Authorities indicated that further extensions or revised timings may be considered if the cold wave persists.
For now, the temporary closure marks another winter disruption for schools in Rajasthan, where cold wave advisories have become more frequent over the past few years.
The focus, officials say, remains on balancing safety with academic continuity.
