Maharashtra reports first death from Delta Plus variant

After Madhya Pradesh, now Maharashtra reported its first Covid-19 death linked to the Delta Plus variant. In Maharashtra, the Delta Plus variant has been detected in 21 Covid-19 positive patients. Of those, one 80-year-old woman with co-morbidities succumbed to the disease on Friday, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said.

As per the Union Health Ministry, 40 cases of Delta Plus, classified as a variant of concern (VOC), have been detected in India so far. These cases have been reported in Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. Of the total cases, two patients have succumbed to the Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus -- one in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra each.
