Actor Shweta Menon opened up about taking charge as the first woman president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Tuesday. She was speaking at a session titled 'The Changemakers: Safe spaces and gender parity in cinema' on Day 2 of India Today Conclave South 2025.Â
During the session, Menon talked about the findings of the Hema Committee report, making decisions in a male-dominated industry and the action plan ahead. "When Hema Committee report came, they spoke to a few people who had mentioned the lack of changing rooms. We have come a long way now. It's an individualistic fight we have to do. Today, a make-up van is provided in an industry that works on modest budgets. We're working on it, and you won't be getting any of these complaints," she said. Â
She then went on to recall her modelling days and sharing the stage with Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen. The actor then expressed the reason behind her absence from films for quite some time. Lastly, she touched upon the issue of fixed working hours and pay parity. "I have always believed that content works. I have done many of these female-oriented films. A movie is not about a man or a woman. But, to get the content is important. 'Lokah' is the talking point now," she expressed. Â
