Turned Delhi into Lapataganj: AAP attacks BJP after hundreds reported missing
Data said that of the 807 people who went missing in January, 235 have been traced and 572 remain unaccounted for.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday strongly criticised the BJP government in Delhi after reports revealed that hundreds of people, including many children, were reported missing in the first 27 days of 2026.
According to official data, 807 individuals were declared missing between January 1 and January 27, with public concern rising regarding the safety of vulnerable groups.
In a post on social media platform X, AAP accused the Rekha Gupta-led administration of failing in its duties, stating, "The BJP has turned Delhi into Lapataganj! (a city of missing people). In the last 15 days, more than 800 people have gone missing in Delhi, the capital of India. 63% of them are girls and women".
Data said that of the 807 missing persons, 235 have been traced and 572 remain unaccounted for.
However, responding to public anxiety and speculation, the Delhi Police assured citizens there is "no reason for panic or fear," emphasising that the situation does not represent an unusual spike in missing persons cases.
Police stated, "It is clarified that no involvement of any organised gang has come to light in cases of missing children or kidnappings in Delhi," addressing concerns circulated on social media.
Specialised units such as Missing Persons Squads operate in every district, while the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit is tasked with handling particularly vulnerable cases.
The police said special attention is given to children, stating their "special priority" in investigations.
Despite a slight decline in reported cases compared to previous years, concerns persist about the high numbers of untraced persons, particularly adolescent girls, as long-term data indicate thousands remain missing in the capital.
