A 26-year-old allegedly died by suicide after learning that the woman he had been in a relationship with was engaged to another man. The incident took place in Bengaluru on Saturday.

The man, identified as Kiran, was a bodybuilder and worked as a trainer at a local gym.

According to the police, he had been in a relationship with the woman for nearly three years. He was devastated after she recently told him that her marriage had been finalised and showed him her wedding invitation along with a new saree.

Police said Kiran returned home, locked himself inside his room and allegedly took the extreme step. The matter came to light after his family members broke open the door and found him unresponsive. He was later shifted to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Family members told the police that Kiran had been preparing a Valentine’s Day gift for the woman.

His parents have lodged a complaint alleging emotional as well as financial exploitation, claiming he had promised to help clear a Rs 50 lakh loan taken by her family.

The incident was reported within the limits of the Mahalakshmi Layout police station in Bengaluru. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
