Model: Ather Rizta Z 3.7kW
Test started: June 2025/1,190km
Current ODO reading: 1,684km
Mileage this month: 146km
Efficiency this month: 130km/charge

The Ather Rizta has become an essential part of the Auto Today long-term garage, serving as our go-to choice for short commutes and grocery runs. One area where it did feel a step behind its sibling, the 450, however, was the screen.

Don’t get me wrong, the display is just as high-resolution and supports all the functions offered on the 450 series. The issue lay in how it was operated. Unlike the 450 series, the Rizta’s screen could only be controlled via buttons on the left handlebar, which I found rather cumbersome, especially when trying to use navigation without relying on a phone. This turned out to be a common complaint, and Ather, true to its consumer-centric approach, had a surprise in store at Ather Community Day 2025.

A touchscreen on the Rizta. And how did Ather manage that? With a simple software update. The hardware had always been present; it just needed the software to unlock its potential. That’s exactly what Ather delivered with this update, which also brought a refreshed interface and a new Eco mode.

This Eco mode strikes a better balance between performance and riding range. I won’t lie, I was quite sceptical about how this update would work in the real world. So, the first chance I got, I downloaded it. And just like that, the screen responded to the touch of my finger. This added functionality, layered on top of Rizta’s excellent practicality, adequate performance, generous seating space, and dependable range, cements its position as one of the best, if not the best, electric family scooters available in the Indian market today.
