Mahindra has announced a Rs 15,000 crore investment to establish its largest integrated car and tractor manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.

Largest integrated manufacturing hub in the making

The new facility will be developed on a 1,500-acre site in the Vidarbha region near Nagpur, with an additional 150-acre supplier park planned in Sambhajinagar. The announcement was made at Advantage Vidarbha, the Maharashtra government’s event aimed at positioning the region as a key industrial growth hub.

Once fully operational, the Nagpur plant will have an annual production capacity of over 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors, making it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing footprint in the country. Commercial production is expected to begin in 2028.

NU_IQ platform and multi-powertrain capability

The automotive facility will be a cornerstone of Mahindra Auto’s future product strategy. It will support next-generation platforms, including the NU_IQ architecture, and will be capable of manufacturing vehicles across multiple powertrains—internal combustion engines (ICE), electric vehicles (EVs), and future propulsion technologies—for both domestic and global markets. The vehicles produced will include the Vision S, Vision SXT, Vision T and the Vision X.

The plant will feature advanced automation, digital manufacturing systems and sustainability-led processes.

Strengthening tractor manufacturing and exports

Alongside vehicle production, the integrated complex will house a tractor manufacturing unit, strengthening Mahindra’s position in the farm equipment segment. The facility will cater to growing domestic demand while also supporting exports to key international markets.

Strategic advantages of the Vidarbha location

Mahindra highlighted Vidarbha’s strong logistical and strategic advantages, including excellent road connectivity via the Samruddhi Expressway, robust rail links, access to major domestic and export markets, and a rapidly developing industrial ecosystem.

The supplier park at Sambhajinagar will enhance localisation and logistics efficiency by supplying components to the new Nagpur facility as well as Mahindra’s existing plants at Chakan and Nashik.

Additional expansion plans in Maharashtra

Beyond the Nagpur project, Mahindra will acquire land in the Igatpuri–Nashik region to expand current product and engine capacities and support the growth of its Advanced Technology business.

Overall, the group plans to acquire over 2,000 acres across three locations in Maharashtra, committing Rs 15,000 crore investment over a 10-year period.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO, Auto and Farm Sector, Mahindra said the new facility marks a major step in Mahindra’s manufacturing journey. "Designed to support our next generation of vehicles and tractors, it brings together scale, flexibility and advanced technology within one integrated footprint. It strengthens our ability to deliver world-class products while reinforcing our commitment to Make in India for the World," he said.
