New highs for Tata: Nexon, Punch, Tiago hit major sales milestones
Tata Motors kicks off 2026 with record sales, as Nexon, Punch, and Tiago achieve major milestones, boosted by EV demand, new launches, and strong traction across passenger vehicle segments.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) has kicked off 2026 on a record-setting note, posting its highest-ever monthly sales and achieving fresh milestones across some of its most important nameplates: the Punch, Nexon and Tiago.
The company recorded total sales of 71,066 units in January 2026, marking its best monthly performance to date and a strong 47.1 per cent year-on-year growth over January last year. The surge was powered by best-ever monthly volumes for key models, cumulative sales landmarks, rising EV demand and solid traction for recently launched products.
Nexon hits record month, crosses 10 lakh lifetime sales
The Tata Nexon emerged as the star performer of the month, registering its highest-ever monthly sales of over 23,000 units. In a major milestone, the compact SUV also crossed 10 lakh cumulative sales, cementing its position as one of India’s most successful SUV nameplates.
A key driver behind Nexon’s sustained success is its wide powertrain portfolio, making it one of the few SUVs in the country to offer petrol, diesel, CNG and electric options under a single nameplate:
- Petrol: 1.2-litre Revotron turbo (120bhp) with 5MT, 6MT, 6AMT and 7DCA
- Diesel: 1.5-litre Revotorq (115bhp, 260Nm) with 6MT and 6AMT
- CNG: 1.2-litre unit tuned for 100bhp and 170Nm, paired with a 6MT
- Electric (Nexon.ev): 30kWh and 45kWh battery packs, with the larger pack offering an ARAI-certified range of 489km and around 350km real-world range
This breadth of choice has helped the Nexon appeal to a wide spectrum of private buyers and fleet customers alike.
Punch posts best-ever sales, becomes fastest to 7 lakh
The Tata Punch continued its rapid rise, clocking best-ever monthly sales of over 19,000 units. The micro-SUV also crossed 7 lakh cumulative sales in just over four years, making it the fastest-selling model in the Indian auto industry to reach this milestone.
Tata recently introduced the refreshed 2026 Punch, priced from Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), marking the most comprehensive update to the ICE Punch since its 2021 debut.
A major highlight is the introduction of the new 1.2-litre turbocharged iTurbo Revotron engine, producing 120bhp and 170Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual. Tata claims a best-in-segment power-to-weight ratio and a 0–100kmph time of 11.1 seconds, targeting buyers seeking stronger performance in a compact footprint.
The lineup now includes:
- 1.2 NA petrol: 88bhp, 115Nm (5MT, 5AMT)
- 1.2 iTurbo petrol: 120bhp, 170Nm (6MT)
- 1.2 iCNG: 73bhp, 103Nm (5MT, 5AT)
Notably, the Punch now offers a CNG AMT with twin-cylinder technology, making it India’s first SUV to pair twin-cylinder CNG with an AMT, preserving boot space while enhancing convenience.
Just like most of the Tata cars, the Punch also comes in an electric avatar with 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs, with the larger one offering a claimed range of 365km on a single charge.
Tiago joins the 7 lakh club
The Tata Tiago also reached a significant landmark, with cumulative sales crossing 7 lakh units, underlining its sustained popularity in both ICE and EV forms.
The Tiago petrol uses a 1.2-litre Revotron engine producing 84bhp and 113Nm, offered with a 5-speed manual or AMT, while the CNG variant delivers 72bhp and 95Nm.
On the electric side:
- Tiago EV Medium Range: 19.2kWh battery, 223km claimed range, 61bhp, 110Nm
- Tiago EV Long Range: 24kWh battery, 293km claimed range, 74bhp, 114Nm
This dual ICE–EV presence has helped the Tiago remain relevant across budget-conscious and urban EV buyers.
New models and EVs add momentum
Tata Motors reported strong response to its new launches, including the Sierra, petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari, and the updated Punch. Demand for the all-new Sierra has been described as exceptional, prompting production ramp-up.
In the domestic market, Tata sold 70,222 passenger vehicles (including EVs) in January, up 46.1 per cent year-on-year. International volumes jumped to 844 units, compared to 240 units a year ago.
Electric vehicles remained a major growth pillar, with combined domestic and international EV sales at 9,052 units, a 72.7 per cent YoY increase, driven by the Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV.
Strong start to the year
With record monthly volumes, multiple model milestones and accelerating EV adoption, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles enters 2026 with strong momentum. The performance highlights the company’s expanding footprint across segments, its leadership push in electric mobility, and the strength of a diverse and refreshed product portfolio.
