Assembly election results 2017: Venkaiah Naidu, Smriti Irani and Piyush Goyal react to BJP win

Union minister Venkaiah Naidu today told India Today that Uttar Pradesh had voted "to come out of the beemaru tag and move towards good governance, which they believe Narendra Modi's government would deliver."

 

The BJP today secured a stunning victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, trampling a fragmented Opposition to secure the biggest mandate any party has ever received in the state. The party won 325 seats, out of a possible 403.

 

Party leaders hailed it as a vindication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and his "pro-poor" policies.

 

The BJP returned to power in Uttar Pradesh with a three-quarter majority after 14 years, during which regional players including the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, held sway.
